Medical gadgetry meets Mario Brothers

Bayer's Didget Blood-Sugar Monitor Attaches to Nintendo DS, Enticing Kids to Manage Health | Popular Science:

Interesting concept, and it could be a great tool for controlling childhood obesity as well. Kids aren't dumb, and they can figure out cause and effect just fine. When you show them how having super-high blood glucose messes them up (and super-low, ditto) it might be easier to get them to make smarter choices about the stuff they're shoveling into their pieholes. Of course, Type I diabetic kids have a stronger incentive than most kids to stay on top of this, and the ones who won't or can't learn tend to die.
