Welp.

Signed up for my summer courses at NVCC. Taking all five at Alexandria; all are accounting, and most of them are split between the first and second six-week terms. The first term is easier; I'll just be taking Principles of Accounting I and Principles of Federal Taxation I; the second term, I'll add Computerized Accounting to the second parts of those classes. It's 15 credits, but since I'm probably not going to be doing anything else this summer besides scoring baseball games, I think I can manage. We'll see.

It struck me while I was entering the classes into my Centro that the FedTax course eats all of my Friday nights and Saturdays until August, which will make it impossible to attend any of the local conventions this summer, not that I really had money for that anyway. I'll probably still pop up to Baltimore for AFU no Breakfast during Otakon, but anything else that happens on the weekends until August (unless it happens Saturday night or Sunday) is off my schedule.

It bothers me a little, but FIJAGH, after all. I'm not on anybody's concom, and I don't have enough of a local presence for anyone to miss me if I don't show up. Funny, but a few years back I missed a deadline in one of my classes at St. Mary's because someone was needed to do the room party at Anime Iowa and nobody else could/would go. It turned out that other staff members did go, and probably could have done the room party, but I let myself get talked into it. Looking back, I can only marvel at what an idiot I was. Especially with gas around $4 at the time.

Was going to do some stuff around the apartment, but I think I'll just go to bed early instead and try to get into the office at 0800 tomorrow after today's miserable failure at doing that.

I'll miss you, but RL comes first.

I have plenty of buddies out on the east coast, and I'm not planning on Iceland this year, so maybe I get out there.

I wasn't going to make it to Convergence this year either, although P and New Son in Law (HHO1/2K) will be there. I don't know how this is going to affect my EVE playing if/when I get my desktop back; probably no more late-night ops, that's for sure.

I miss hanging out with you online, and hope you do make it out here for one last Fleetmeet before the Mittani ups anchor and moves to your part of the country.

Part of what you are doing is re-evaluating priorities. while there is logic to
back up the "a balanced life is a good life" argument, context is important
to that statement. your context, alas, points to deferred pleasures that others
have the time for. Once you achieve the Super Thing, you too will be able to
go back to these things. Have faith - there will be time for them all - just not now.

This is true. Time and money will be in greater supply at the other end of this particular tunnel.
