The immunization debate

Great article in Wired. Much like global warming, this debate pits deliberate ignorance against science. For my part, I think people who make medical decisions for their children based on what Jenny McCarhy says deserve what they get, but I don't appreciate them putting my life -to say nothing of my family and friends!- at risk because of their stupidity.

I will seek and find you.
I shall take you to bed and have my way with you.
I will make you ache, shake & sweat until you moan & groan.
I will make you beg for mercy, beg for me to stop.
I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I’m finished with you.
And, when I am finished, you will be weak for days.
All my love,
The Flu

On a srs bzness note, though, the article does make a point about how medicine isn't doing enough to reach out to people's fears and need for comfort, and is thus leaving a loophole for the snake oil salesmen to slip in with their promises of "We care. We comfort."

I had a date like that once. :/

It's a good point about the PR failures of the medical business, too. It really makes me grind my teeth when I think about how the public schools have consistently favored those who "know how to teach" over actual scientists who would have been ecstatic over the chance to open kids' eyes to the wonders of science, because that's done a lot to create the kind of society we have now, where superstition and stupidity of this sort runs rampant. Any roads...I'm starting to hear ads about all the good works the drug companies are doing here and overseas, so maybe somebody in the industry has a clue and is doing something about the situation.
