Went down to Accountemps and lucked out by finding an empty two hours free space on Diagonal Street around the corner from their office. Got paperwork brought up to date, talked with a staffer for about ten minutes, then headed back home. Hopefully they'll get me some work tomorrow and/or Monday.

Freshly bookmarked: Closing Velocity, a blog dedicated to missile defense. I've been a fan of BMD since the 1960s, when it was politically incorrect before PC was cool on account of the Mutual Assured Destruction orthodoxy, and this blog satisfies my need for information on the topic.

If you are interested, Ameriprise is hiring more in-house advisors in about 6 weeks.

Pay: $30,000 base ($14.47/hr) + commission ($50k-$65k expected 1st year) with overtime.

Required:
Series 7
Series 63
Insurance License
(All of which they pay for and pay you while you train at their downtown location.

Benefits:
Health Insurance (no restrictions), Life (4x salary available without a medical check), begin date of hire. 401(k) begins a couple months later (Don't quote me on that one) - lots of others.

Hours: First 8 weeks are basically 0800-1630 while you train, then you are assigned on the floor and Mon-Wed it's something like 1200-2100, Thursday 1100-2000, Friday 0900-1800. That changes after 6 months I believe.

Basically, when you aren't working on the computer preparing financial plans, you are on the phone talking to clients of Ameriprise. No cold calling, calling existing clients only. 50 calls/day minimum (we're told that 75 is a MUCH better idea)

arapier@comcast.net if you would like more details.

It's tempting, but I suck as a salesman. I also have some rather fixed notions about life insurance and investing that would probably make me a bad fit for Ameriprise.
