the monsoon season is here

Yesterday was largely a waste of time...sat around playing internet spaceships and eating for most of the day, without even breaking for baseball like I did Saturday. Wound up going out to Ashburn to do breakfast with P; we drove out to the Waffle House in Winchester off route 50 through some extremely intense thunderstorms with lightning on the side. Normally I go for the All-American Breakfast at WH, but decided that since this was more of a midnight snack I really ought to just hold it down to a double pecan waffle. Anyway, P and I did a lot of talking on the drive. One of the really bad things about working the mid shift is that after a while you really start feeling the need to have some face time with people besides your roommates & fellow workers, which is pretty tough since most of them are working a normal day shift. Been there, done that.

Late-night country driving and going to the range have a lot in common. They relieve stress by letting you know you're free.

Speaking of stress, no work today, at least not when I woke up. (This happened at 0900 instead of 0700 because when I woke up at 0700 I felt like hammered yak shit. So I drank water and went back to sleep instead of getting up and forcing a cup of coffee on my unhappy stomach.) I'll be camping my phone hoping to hear something different - I really do need some cashflow over the next couple of weeks to make rent. In the meantime, I guess I'll fill out some more applications and take a nap, maybe.

UPDATE: Well, that worked out nicely. I'll be starting a temp-to-perm position tomorrow in Fairfax for $19/hour. Here's hoping it works out; if nothing else, I'll get some exposure to Great Plains software, which I haven't had before.

Btw, do you have a headset mic?

If you don't have one, I have an older one... I was going to give it to one of the youngins here, but it's been long enough that I think the obligation is moot.

I could drag you on vent more then! Cheaper than phonecalls, and pretty amusing. this weekend at once point we had 1 goon (me) 1 ex goon (surf got booted out for being a pubbie), 1 ex ISS, 1 current FIX, 1 total newbie, 1 pirate, and 1 Razor/IAC guy.

Or as I see it 2 SouthAfricans in CA, 2 brits, 1 vegas, 2 MN. Like a bag of hyperactive monkeys!

I saw some reference to Surf getting the boot but didn't really catch any reason behind it; seemed from what I read that he was just this year's Dungar.

Thanks for the offer but it looks like I'm actually going to have some work in my future and should be able to scrape together the cash for a decent headset. Maybe I'll start showing up and going on ops again; I have an urge to work my way up to FC'ing.

IF you can find me the reference to that link on GF.com that would rock. He's sorta confused. he went afk in station for long enough to get some food, and found himself kicked.

Ironically, he had been away from his computer for a week while he was formally get discharged from the Marines.

I can't find the post now, but I PM'd one of the directors. We'll get an answer. If you're still in touch with him, tell him to reapply...probably some authentication screwup.

Uh... I think it is possible he was just kicked. really... people did not seem to like him much.

I saw one small reference, in ask a director where people said something about making a list of people kicked (and ref'd surf) so future people did not re´-add them...

Maybe that's where I saw it. Weird, because I was looking at that very thread last night and managed to miss the reference.
