It's the Jooooos! (Jawa Report)

Also courtesy of the Jawas, Ron Paul makes the Encyclopedia Dramatica. It couldn't happen to a nicer wackjob.

Why baseball writers can't be trusted with Hall of Fame ballots.
In a similar vein, veteran sportswriter bemoans lack of alcoholism and vomiting at the Winter Meetings.
Sid Hartman is just the tip of the iceberg, people.

" That’s how it used to be in the Soviet Union; nothing but delicious lobster, all the time, for everyone."
Yes, there are still Communists in Germany.
Fortunately, these days they're complete fucking morons. (Tim Blair)

Notice how nobody can make a convincing argument that Bert Blyleven does NOT belong in the Hall of Fame?

I think Bert belongs in there myself - playing most of his career for awful teams hurts him in the balloting because most baseball writers are ignorant fucks who don't believe in things like park & period adjustments, to say nothing of team context. If you haven't read it already, may I recommend Bill James' The Politics of Glory? I think it was reprinted in paperback as Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame?.

I don't even bother with most traditional baseball journalism these days. I follow the Brewers, and the local media upload raw audio of player interviews so I don't have to bother reading the edited quotes. The fan blogs have the best analysis. After seeing one of Curt Schilling's blog entries be horribly taken out of context by various members of the media (who seem to have forgotten that readers can go read the blog in question themselves--and how the heck can you misquote a blog?) I'm really not impressed.

*nods* Yeah, the columnists are a pretty sad lot, every bit as bad as their compatriots on the editorial page for the most part. The regular writers do an okay job, by and large, but it's hard to screw up a box score and a simple account of the game.
