Paint it black inside your head

In the unlikely event that James Lileks ever goes back to school and takes a course in adolescent psych, he's not going to have to look too hard if he wants to refresh his memory about what his daughter went through in her teenage years. Much to my dismay, the same isn't true of me, as I found out last night while rummaging through journals, BMFPs, and apazines while trying and failing to write a paper. P and I talked about that briefly this morning; I feel pretty crappy that I didn't make some notes at the time, but as she pointed out, she was trying (and largely succeeding) to maintain a low profile.

While we're on the subject of teenagers, this post by Cobb on ADD is well worth reading, especially for the exchange between cnulan and DMG in the comments. cnulan doesn't think ADHD has any basis in biology and DMG brings the knowledge in reply. There's no question that ADHD exists and really screws some people up, and there's also no question that the way public schools are run these days doesn't help.

Ann Althouse has some observations on the ongoing soap opera in the Japanese Imperial Household and its newest episode, in which Princess Kiko gives birth to the long-desired male heir. Her commenters seem mostly unsympathetic to Princess Masako and the whole Imperial family thing, but then we're Americans and like our royals somewhat goofy, it seems.

This looks like another slow day, capped by P pulling some mandatory overtime. Bleah. Forgetting my testing kit and my sunglasses isn't helping.

The more I learn about the culture, the more the anime scares me.
