Chamberlain. MacArthur. Smith.

This essay , which explains why SFC Paul Ray Smith of B Company, 11th Engineer Battalion was awarded the Medal of Honor, reminds me of Robert Heinlein's speech to the graduating midshipmen at Annapolis back in 1973.

"This is how a man dies. This is how a man lives."

I have Heinlein's address archived on my laptop. It is a wonder example of Classic American Liberalism, the kinda thinking that is scored as hard right wing today.

I'd love a copy of that. I have the version that was published in Analog somewhere in my stack of boxes, but trying to find a copy of the speech online was a real exercise in frustration. Everybody talks about it, nobody posts it.
