CONvergence volunteer party

It was okay. I'm not that enthused about the T-shirt design, but it's free and it fits, so I can't complain too much. Got there about an hour late, talked to a whole mess of people, played The Great Dalmuti with thaadd, tj_striker and some other folks, left around 0030 when the Diet Coke ran out. Except for the pretzels, most of the edibles were candy or stuff like Twinkies, but I managed to restrain myself fairly well in spite of not really having had dinner beforehand.

It was ungodly hot and humid when I arrived and just as bad when I left. Today looks to be more of the same; there's some rain on the radar but it looks like most of it will pass south of the cities and do us no good at all. Well, might as well get up, get showered, get the truck refueled and sometime before the Minnetoko meeting, find the copy of Princess Nine that tokenfanboy loaned me. I know it's around here somewhere.

it's the heat

Well, I missed Minnetokyo again, but not without good reason - Scott's TransSport blew a hose, so I gave him a lift over to WalMart since I figured they might have hoses to go with all the tires & filters. That was a no-go, but they did have plumbing tape and clamps so he can patch the hose back together long enough to get to a parts place tomorrow and get a real hose. Got that, got bread and stuff, and headed home.

On the way I realized that one of the reasons my bedroom was so damn hot was because I had the laser printer hooked up, and since this is an extremely simple model with no off switch or powersave, it's running all the time. I unplugged it when Scott and I got home, and I swear it's 10 degrees cooler in here already. Yay! Can't believe it took me so long to figure that out.

Early bedtime for me, even though I woke at noon...tired and a little out of sorts. Couldn't find a couple of books I was looking for over the weekend (though I did find my missing Paglia collections) and made little progress on the background for Blood Red Skies, which at this point is what's holding up the story. Can't do gigantic star-smashing battles until you build the fleets, after all...and you have to have the background built up to support those fleets.
