Dead Piro Day

This is pretty neat. I can actually see Erika Hayasaka as Signy Mallory, but the other characters arre problematic...there's really no room for someone like Ping-chan in the Alliance/Union universe, with all those cloned azi running around the place.

I'm making progress on stuff around here. Tuesday it was laundry, yesterday it was attacking the shower stall and achieving declogulation of the drain, which has been running very slow for a few weeks now. It makes me uncomfortable to have inch-deep water sloshing around my feet in the shower. Today, I don't know...probably cleaning up the dining room and living room, since the dining room table has been submerged under a wave of paper again. I can't seem to get rid of the mail as fast as it comes in, despite throwing out all the junk mail except for the coupons...which I rarely use, so I guess those ought to go too.

Boy, it's not easy being Professor Death these days. He gets slammed by the MSM, which can't make up its mind about whether he's a conservative or a liberal blogger, then he gets trashed by the more-pro-life-than-thou crowd for some sick Photoshop humor, and now even Senator Hatch wants him dead. Or at least in prison. Or stripped of bandwidth for conspiracy to...something, I dunno. I'm just a simple wombat, and trying to parse anything legal more complicated than Plessy v. Ferguson makes my eyes glaze over and my skull hurt.

Anyway, the point of all this is that once again we see how useless the liberal/conservative axis of political description is, especially since the bomb-throwers in both major parties have Super-Glued a bunch of baggage onto those words so they don't mean what the dictionary says they mean any more. Glenn Reynolds doesn't really fit the definition of a modern liberal (commie dope addict baby-killing homo union thug) or conservative (racist Bible-thumping male chauvinist capitalist Nazi pig); if I had to slap some kind of political label on him, I'd say he's a dynamist. For the definition of what that is, go read Virginia Postrel's The Future And Its Enemies. It'll do you good.

This is also part of the reason I describe myself as a "Falangist Libertarian". It confuses people enough so that they have to ask me what that means, and then we can get into a good discussion about what we really believe and how that affects our views on the issues. That's a lot more productive than just saying "I'm a Republican," which is also true but tends to bring the conversation to a screeching halt for a lot of people in fandom who are otherwise fairly open-minded.

This post by Cobb also deserves a good hard look and some long meditation. Thank you, NRO, for revealing Cobb's blog to me. It rules.
