May 16th, 2004

Melody and I were absolutely staggered by the CONvergence meeting. This is the kind of efficiency and smoothness that Anime Detour needs to acquire real quick lest we go under in a welter of missed details and poorly-trained volunteers. I'm hoping that more than a few of us will sign on as volunteers and see how a large convention is run, because this is stuff we're going to need to know very very soon. Like yesterday. Their pre-reg count was ~1200 as of May 15 (not counting whatever dribbles in over the next few days that was postmarked the 15th) and I think they have a real good shot at hitting 2000 this year.

Back to the trenches

Got a lot accomplished this weekend. Since I received my purchase permit on Friday, I was able to go bring Masha and a box of 9x18 rounds home on Saturday morning after filling out a new form for the ATF since the original form I'd filled out in February had expired. Now to spend a few evenings familiarizing myself with Masha before I take her out to the range for some familiarization. I don't see any point in going to a MCPPA training course with a weapon I don't know well.

Went to the CONvergence staff meeting Saturday after dropping Masha off and picking up Melody, turned in our registration and the ad for AD2005, and after they'd run through the agenda, I turned Melody loose to get hold of the room party coordinator while I chased down the various people I wanted to talk to - the heads of Theater Nippon and the consuite, mainly, which are the places I'm going to be spending most of my volunteer hours unless I can get some hours playing a supporting role in Operations, which I very badly want to do.
Somebody needs to get experience.

After CONvergence, we decided to grab burgers and go home for MinneTokyo, since we didn't have time to run down to WalMart for snackage. I figured I'd just order pizza instead, and that proved to be the right decision. We got all the anime (RahXephon, Ayashi no Ceres, and Hellsing watched on schedule and everyone went home around 11:30. I meant to go to bed early, and instead wound up staying awake until 1 AM when the Earl Root-less Root of All Evil came on. Oops. Wound up sleeping in until 1 PM Sunday before getting dragged off to pick up Melody's prescriptions, pillage Dreamhaven (they had the HB of John Ringo's Hell's Faire, hurrah!) and settle in to an early dinner at the Old Chicago.

Now all my laundry's done, the bedroom and apartment are cleaner than they were, and I can get to bed at a semi-decent hour so I can get some good sleep in before what will undoubtledly be a long and boring day at work tomorrow.
