4th of July, Sheraton Bloomington

With no apologies to Bruce Springsteen or anybody else...

Father's Day was pretty uneventful, which is fine with me; unlike some former family members I don't get all excited over holidays pimped by Hallmark unless I'm getting the day off from the Evil Banking Neighbor. I slept in until about 1 PM as a result of previously mentioned futzing around with the new Ultravox CD, and as a result managed to show up for thaadd's Consuite meeting half an hour late. It would have been twenty minutes, but I overshot the coffeehouse and wound up having to navigate the twisty turny little streets of the neighborhood until I could get back on Central and line myself up for another go at it. I think I was the only grunt there; the rest of the folks (EV, some folks I vaguely recognized from Clay's party or from consuite last year, and danae, who managed to be even later than I was ;P) were all sub-heads, I think. Anyways, I read the amusing FAQ, got updated on the huge quantity of food & pop purchased, got briefed in on the likely candidates to succeed thaadd, and signed up for way too many hours in the Consuite. For example, on Saturday, if I am not doing one of the two comics panels I'm on that day, I'm either in the consuite or I'm home and asleep.

Which means I need to get the AD people who volunteered to help with the room party together so we can hash out who's going to do what when, because I probably won't be around to help much. Time to delegate!

After the meeting broke up, I went to Chipotle for dinner, Panera for dessert, and walked back to Our Lady of Lourdes for the 7 PM Mass. Sermon for the day was on Matthew 10:28, and a good (though brief) sermon it was; afterwards, home, where CDs waited to be put up for auction.

Hey, get me a room key and I can 0wnz the tech side of the room party. I've got that part down to a science.

Indeed. You might want to talk to AVVR about renting a larger screen than the one we have with the room kit, because IIRC the screen isn't really big enough to cover the painting or the brackets left behind after the painting is dismounted. I'll call/stop by the hotel and get a confirmation on the dates we have the room for - I'm pretty sure we have it from 7/1 through 7/3, checking out on Monday morning, but I want to be sure so that we can pick a time to get together and do the key handoff.

Not sure about that. While the screen would be bigger, so would the footprint. We'd need a longer projection distance as well, to take advantage of the screen size. Is this going to be like last year, where the room was bare, or are we going to have beds, dressers, etc. to contend with?

I'm having them take the bed out, but the rest of the furniture will be there.

I'd have to check with my folks but I think they still have their old screen from when they used to take slide pictures if you want to try it out. Have to find out what size it is.

I'll be there early on Friday to help set up so as soon as Kevin can get room keys I can help setup. I'll bring my card table to set stuff on like the fliers and snacks.

How many room party fliers should I get printed? How many 2K6 registration forms do we want for in the room and for setting out at the flier table in the convention itself.

Were people bringing posters to decorate the room with? Want any 8.5 X 11 pictures printed from this year's con to put up?

Actually, we'll be setting up Thursday night if people are able to get there. revolutionaryjo, stuckintraffik and I will be meeting briefly on Sunday to talk about who's going to get keys, what we want to have people pick up for us in terms of pop, munchies, etc., and other organizational hoo-ha.

Do about 400 2k6 registration forms and 25 room party flyers; we'll split the forms between the freebie table and what we have in the room. I also have a bunch of the flyers printed up for SogenCon that got left at work, so we should have about a ream's worth for the weekend.

People should certainly bring posters (I don't know if anyone is), and yes, definitely print up some photos of this year's doings. I really liked the collage you put together last year and would like to see something like that again.

I'm available at the con all day Friday to get a key and help set up.

Which reminds me, what time on Friday did you say we would be able to show the fandub at the AD room party? I've got one of the guys from our studio who'll be making some fliers soonish. And no one knows the room number yet, right? Oh, and did you mention sometime over the weekend we could possibly show Real Men Play Doubles too?

It's not looking like I'll be spending a lot of time in our room party (or anyone else's either, for that matter) so you and stuckintraffik should coordinate this...my free time on Friday is from 3-5 and 9-10 PM. So I can pop up after 9, do the commercial, and hang out with folks, but unless thaadd really takes a chainsaw to the times I requested I'm pretty much going to be lifting barges, toting bales, checking badges and repelling idiots down in the consuite for most of Friday and Saturday.

About time I started delegating some of this stuff anyway, neh?

How long is the fandub, and when did you want to show it, or at least which night?
