Melody and I were absolutely staggered by the CONvergence meeting. This is the kind of efficiency and smoothness that Anime Detour needs to acquire real quick lest we go under in a welter of missed details and poorly-trained volunteers. I'm hoping that more than a few of us will sign on as volunteers and see how a large convention is run, because this is stuff we're going to need to know very very soon. Like yesterday. Their pre-reg count was ~1200 as of May 15 (not counting whatever dribbles in over the next few days that was postmarked the 15th) and I think they have a real good shot at hitting 2000 this year.

At least it's a whole hell of a lot better than AniZona, they were trying to get a one day together for October, but ended up canceling that one, and moved their 3 day to April.

Whoa. How can you screw up the planning for a one-day...never mind. I don't want to know they did it - I can imagine about half a dozen ways without even trying hard.

Me, I just want to make sure we have enough competent staff and volunteers on hand for next year so I don't have to go through that kind of horrible burned-out feeling on the Monday after the con again. These are supposed to be fun, after all, and if we're not having fun we're screwing it up.
