Pre-Valentine's day bile

I'm really starting to loathe jewelers, or at least their ads. Especially the diamond sellers, who are implying with their ads that every woman is a feckless whore whose affections can be bought with a new pair of earrings or a necklace...so long as it has a healthy helping of their ultra-pressurized carbon lumps. And if every woman's a whore, what does that make every man who buys their product?

okay not wait, he already had my affections, but I do like jewelry

it makes me feel guilty almost for likeing pretty stones and expensive stuff like i'm a materialistic whore because I like sapphires! Stop making me feel guilty!

There's no shame in liking jewelry. What I object to is the advertisers' complete lack of subtlety...stuckintraffik's reference to the fake ad on The Family Guy nails it.

I luv jewelery......stop making us feel bad! Actually, I will purchase myself jewelery cause no guy that I have dated, bought me what I wanted. Nope, I told them straight out and it wasn't all that expensive.....sigh.

Best fauz diamond ad ever was on Family Guy. It featured the DeBeers shadow people - the guy presented her with a diamond, they kissed, and then she sunk down to waist level offscreen. the tagline at the end of the commercial was something like, "Once you buy it, she pretty much has to." I think they distilled every diamond commercial ever into their purest essence for that commercial.

Worst diamond as ever? Those f$#@ing "He went to Jared" commercial. Kill them all.

*nods nods* The spots for Wedding Day Jewelers are annoying, but in a corny sort of way that totally avoids the slimy quid pro quo innuendo of the other 99% of jewelry ads.

Diamond sellers and manufacturers are lower than scum in my book. I despise the commercials on the same level for the same reasons. Did you know that they launched that "A diamond is forever" campaign because too many women were handing down their diamond jewelry as heirlooms? They wanted to encourage people to bury thier women with the diamonds they bought so that later generations would need to buy more diamonds for their women. Just unbelievably disgusting.
