Anime Detour Meets the Goons

My ask/tell post about Anime Detour on the Something Awful forums.
So far I'm disappointed in the weak efforts of the trolls.

Also pretty hilarious; at some points I had trouble breathing. Yes, I am an insensitive jerk; why do you ask?

Your weird sports news fix for Thursday

WTF
The Moneyball movie goes back into development hell. From the description, all I can say is "Praise Jesus!" Also, big ups to Amy Pascal. Nice to see every suit in Hollywood isn't a crack-addled moron.

No. No. This is just wrong. I don't care how much you loved Michael Jackson, girls.

Gump Worsley. Actually, one hell of a goalie. (Via Reason's Hit & Run, which was actually mocking Senator Stuart Smalley and Minnesota at the time.)

Finally, a murder involving midget luchadores, roofie-using hooker thieves, and Paris Hilton; unfortunately the hookers and Hilton seem to have survived. :(
If this sort of thing keeps up, I may need to bookmark Deadspin.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to throw out the trash...

Hilarity ensues

Somehow I doubt this shirt is going to mark anyone as an alpha geek, much less make the geeky girls swoon. I'll stick to the old reliable - Myers Jamaican Rum!

Via Ace's headline sidebar.

Also, there's a lot of excitement over this trailer, but since I just finished reading The Atrocity Archives and On Stranger Tides, I think I'll pass.

Green shoots bustin' out all over! (Instapundit)

N.B.: Do not click the link if you are under the impression that Obama and the Congress are doing a good job with the economy. Mr. Cavanaugh will harsh your mellow.

Related: Brian Doherty's Radicals for Capitalism is an interesting and concise history of the libertarian movement in America, which goes back a lot further than Ayn Rand and (imao) has a lot of crazy uncles in the attic. Lots and lots of short bios of all the major figures in the movement, some analyses of why the LP hasn't achieved much as a third party, and a lot of background on the anarchist/Left/"soft" libertarians that I frankly hadn't been aware of. Highly recommended.

It's Friday. So what.

Any morning that starts off with a description of Twitter as "a box full of imaginary friends" and continues with a thoroughly appropriate photoshopping of a McDonald's billboard is a good one. Thank you, Mr. Lileks!
This book is full of win and awesome. )

“Perhaps predictibly, someone showed up in the comments to my post on Medicare and Social Security to argue that liberal analysts have very serious plans to cut Medicare’s costs, which is why we need universal coverage, so that we can implement those very serious plans. I hear this argument quite often, and it’s gibberish in a prom dress.” Read the whole thing.

Joyous event of the 100 days of the Obama Idea happily celebrated by cheering workers of the liberated United States Peoples Democratic Republic with inspiring song and deep reflection of gratitude! (Jules Crittenden)

I can truthfully say that nobody at work gave a shit, including me. Most of work today revolved around getting the payroll ready, wrestling with the body shop's A/P, and other related amusement. Tammy left early to haul her son to the dentist's, iQue came and tore out a bunch of superfluous wiring, and I hauled a couple of dead boxes to the dumpster, along with a redundant CRT display and keyboard.

The rain we got today was pretty minimal, the gentle soaking drizzle that gardeners like and DC drivers hate. It cooled things down quite nicely from the surprising 90-degree temperatures earlier in the week.

A thousand blessings on Moe Lane, not just for pointing out this article that I somehow overlooked in my obsessive visiting of Ace's place, but for taking the news and interpreting it in a way that's sure to motivate all right-drinkingthinking fans.

I mean...oceans of tequila? Time for the lads at MIT and Caltech to get cracking on an FTL drive, or at least the Alderson Drive. Hell, I'd settle for a Bussard ramjet, and I can't even drink any more.

Probably the most concise summary of Lamestream Media's coverage of last week's Tea Party events, courtesy of Bluftooni. (Moe Lane, who also brings us zombie haiku.)

I'm guessing it won't be the sainted Ms. Potter, as Peter Rabbit goes forth to slay the frumious Tiger II.

Possibly related: a late comment on the D.C. Tea Party earlier this week.

In Search of Pants on the Intertubes

But first, an amusing skit about some rights you wouldn't have without the Constitution.

(Volokh Conspiracy)

I think from now on I'm just going to stick to the old reliable provider of clothes, Draft Horse. They're the only place on the Internet that consistently has decent work pants at a reasonable ($30<) price, to say nothing of having a web site that consistently works in a smooth manner. Which you definitely don't get from Dickies. As for Kingsize, either the pants are of a size that can be found easily at Walmart (and therefore useless) or of a price that is reminiscent of previous trips to Casual Male (God rot their eyes).

Captain Capitalism solves The Mystery

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 8:02 PM
Get the message
In this insightful blog post, the Captain gets to the root of The Mystery. The Mystery is a staple of discussion at Joe Soucheray's Garage Logic, where just about every day brings fresh news of Euphorians' and other ne'er-do-wells' work on advancing The Mystery. Oddly, despite having been sent this missive no less than three times, Joe has so far not aired the Captain's essay or referred to it. Perhaps there's more to it than the Captain knows? I myself am suspicious of purely economic explanations for human behavior, since it seems obvious to me from reading history that some people just don't care about money or rate it fairly low in their scale of Important Things.
