This is just sad.

Ann Althouse is getting shot up from the right and the left these days, which unfortunately seems to be the fate of moderates in these polarized times. The Pajamas Media/OSM/Pajamas Media folks seem to have gone into hypersensitive rabid attack poodle mode ever since Professor A criticized them for things they themselves are trying to fix now; the latest blowup seems to be over her fairly mild criticism (if you can even call it that) of PM's Thanksgiving Parade liveblogging and related tightening of comment policing on the Professor's blog.

As for the yahoos at Daily Kos, sounds like the same hypocrisy on a different day as they defend their right to be as racist and sexist as they wanna be, because it's all just funny masks they wear in the comment section as a big inside joke. Ann exposes the stupidity of that argument, and ruminates that the Democrats went a long way towards killing off honest feminism in the Clinton years. All that's left are the "bitches" now, if you'll forgive my use of GULAG thieves' slang.

UPDATE: Once again, I e-mail a big-name blogger and get spotlighted. I wound up creating a place for myself on Blogger so I could comment over at Chez Althouse, but I don't see myself doing anything over there except pointing people back here. Maybe later when I can spend some time on generating mad bags of cash on the Internets, whenever the heck that'll be.

Althouse is not fair
Ann Althouse is being attacked from "the Left" because of her misleading and dishonest atack on Atrios and his commenters.

The other side of the story is here:

It is a polite, civil post, which Althouse has explicitly refused to acknowledge, explaining why her attack is wrong. She was not attacked, insulted, or denigrated in a sexist fashion by any Atrios commenter on that thread. The "irony" she is so exercised about is aimed at sexism and racism itself. (The person who left the "uppity negro" comment is black, and was clearly mocking racist attitudes of "proper" black behavior.)

I am asking you to be open minded and to read the other side of the story before accepting Althouse's view of the facts of the matter. She is not being fair.

Thank you.

Re: Althouse is not fair
I'm sure this is wonderfully clear if you know all the individuals involved and who they are. Unfortunately Ann and I don't, which makes it look like you're a bunch of racist/sexist jerks, who went back later and tried to whitewash it by saying "Oh, that's okay, X is actually black and Y is a woman , so we're just having fun here." It still comes off as really hypocritical. If you're going to indulge in that kind of inside jokery, you don't really want to hang it out in public where everyone can see it and jump to the wrong conclusions, you know?

Now, the truly sad thing about this is that normally I have more in common with the LGF folks and Jeff - I tend to refer to my politics as "Falangist libertarianism" - but I don't think they're behaving any better than you guys in her comments. That's where I'm coming from.

Oh, and BTW - I leave anonymous comments open so that friends not on LJ can comment. If you're going to take advantage of that, be so kind as to leave a name or a URL so I can see who I'm talking to. Otherwise I'm going to have to start moderating comments, which is a pain in the ass.
