Enlightenment happens

I think the reason I don't go to confession so much any more is that they renamed it the Sacrament of Reconciliation some years back, and as an accountant I have come to really, really loathe and despise account reconciliations. I spent most of the day reconciling five checking accounts, including the main disbursing account which was a complete and utter BITCH ON GOAT-SUCKING WHEELS because my predecessor screwed up several journal entries. Well, okay, it didn't help that I forgot to list one of the outstanding checks on the worksheet, but that was relatively minor and took about ten seconds to find after we fixed all the general ledger problems. I'm thinking there's got to be a way to simplify this process, which currently involves six different folders, assloads of handwritten entries, and a lot of bouncing back and forth between Lotus and Armor, which is the DOS-based system that does the AP/AR/GL stuff. Anyway, I didn't get out of there until 5 PM today -normally I get out at 3- and I have to say it's probably a good thing my predecessor had to leave early, because tbqh I think it would have taken until early evening to get it done if she hadn't. Nice lady, but I don't think she has a really good grasp of why things work the way they do, and if things aren't all in order she tends to go wobbly. So the controller will be coming in for a half-day tomorrow to help me get through the body shop reconciliation, and we'll see how that goes.

Bleah...it's quarter of eight, and I really should go out to pick up some fresh razor blades, but I'm pretty tired and not too inclined to stir forth.
